I’m Bill West, an independent candidate for the 2020 Macedon Ranges Shire Council elections, in East Ward which includes Baynton, Darraweit Guim, Kerrie, Lancefield, Newham, Riddells Creek and Romsey. I’ve been a councillor for the past four years and now I am seeking re-election for a second term.

When time availability meant I could stand for election as an East Ward councillor for the first time four years ago, voters responded positively. As a candidate who does not belong to a political party, I have tried to bring a fair-minded commonsense approach to the council table, respecting fellow councillors and officers, and being interested in shire-wide activities and projects as well as giving priority to the East Ward.
Having lived on my family farm at Lancefield all my life, consulting and listening are skills I acquired working for more than 50 years as a journalist/editor at district newspapers.
I have great faith in the people and communities in our municipality – whether they be long term residents or relative newcomers.
Sport involvement teaches participants a lot about life, and I’ve always seen it as part of the education process for young people.
My community credentials include being a former Riddell District Football League secretary, former president and life member of Gisborne District Cricket Association, past president of Lancefield Bowling Club, and former Lancefield Park committeeman.
I was very pleased to see the Lancefield Park lighting project included in the adopted budget; also Romsey golf course/park improvements and Riddells Creek football change rooms.
If re-elected, I am keen to continue to work towards maintaining and improving Macedon Ranges as a splendid locality in which to live, work and play.
There needs to be the right balance between built form and protecting our natural landscapes and environment.
I pushed hard to see Romsey Men’s Shed become reality, as such facilities are essential for our communities.
Hoping to continue to represent the East Ward. I have the time and energy to do so.
If you are voting for another candidate, perhaps you may consider listing me as your second choice.
